The Forge and Anvil Inn
has been owned and operated by the Avila family since 1976.  The restaurant is tucked into the peaceful hamlet of Barbertown in Kingwood Township, at the intersection of Kingwood  Road/ Rout 519 and Barbertown-Point Breeze Road. It's history is interwoven with that of Hunterdon, and that's immediately obvious to even the first time visitor.

The restaurant's home is a 175-year-old building that was originally a private residence.  Later, the building hosted a general store and public house.  When prohibition was repealed,  it became a tap room, and underwent it's most extensive renovations in 1949. The charm and decor of the restaurant is not a Hollywood creation : it's obviously authentic. The tongue -and - grove knotty pine paneling  - which is interspersed with original rubble stone walls - the wagon wheel chandeliers, oxen yoke and high back booths recall an era of craftsmanship that lives in few places outside these walls.  Decor accents of antique farm implements, wood plank tables, blacksmithing tools and - of  - course - several anvils throughout  the front dining room are reminiscent of times past. The Forge and Anvil Inn menu combines offerings from classic casual fare to upscale entrees all tempered with a contemporary attitude, freshness and quality.

In the back dining room, intriguing photographs and art work contrast with the wood and stone walls.  Cozy and romantic describes the ambiance as the view of the outside gardens beckon a stroll.  Cocktails are shared by the water or in the candle lit alcove. A pleasant and accommodating wait staff hopes to make your dining experience at the Forge and Anvil Inn an enjoyable one.
